Appreciating the Expertise of DASHA®’s Partners Firsthand

The trouble began with the onset of this year’s brutal winter.  There I was, all ready to enjoy my first winter holiday out east with my hubby and kids, and then take a short trip to the warmer climate of Puerto Rico for a little rest and relaxation.

The universe had something else in store.  My new home flooded, and both kids had a double ear infection with a cough the day before the trip, forcing us to delay the trip 24 hours until both kids were in shape to fly, which led to my overactive imagination in connection with my worried mom mode wondering, did those ear infections and did that flood truly come from nowhere?  My shenanigans can sometimes get the best of me!

Fast forward to March, and my daughter is still struggling with a cough and other respiratory issues. As a mom, I have been a basket of g-d knows what, naturally driving my husband crazy.  I had been to the pediatrician 6 times, all with the same result, “She doesn’t have an ear infection.”  Call it mother’s intuition, but I know my daughter and I knew something wasn’t right.  At my wit’s end, I called and scheduled an appointment with one of DASHA®’S highly recommended partners, Dr. Clifford Bassett of Allergy & Asthma Care of New York.  Dr. Bassett was named a top doctor by U.S. News and World Report.

Dr. Bassett ran extensive tests.  We didn’t get the run around.  He recommended an ENT, Dr. Shinhar, to address the belly issues and the coughing, as well as a pediatric pulmonologist at NYU, Dr. Giusti.  My daughter was put on a strict gluten-free diet, meds, and lots of love, no stress, as they worked to determine the source of her problems.  To support her, our household went gluten-free during her food allergy testing period, and has been truly loving it.  It’s a lifestyle change and it might not be forever, but it feels right for right now, and we are learning a lot about food.  My kids have tried more new foods this winter than in their entire lives thus far.  Moms, be sure to stay up to date with the DASHA® blog and keep up with us on social media, as we will be focusing in on food events and postings that feature healthy snack and gluten-free options in New York City.

In just 8 days, Dr. Bassett provided us with answers we had been desperately seeking.  My daughter was diagnosed with a touch of asthma and acid reflux, which I will take happily over the negative whirlwind of thoughts that had been running around the pinwheel in my brain.

So my blog post is a wake-up call for us.  Trust your gut!  Please don’t ignore feelings and symptoms that are the slightest bit out of the ordinary.  It’s also an added bonus that the doctor we highly recommend to our clients at DASHA® is someone we have worked with personally as well, and who has helped us so much.

DASHA® wellness & spa partners with other people and businesses that enhance the well-being of our clients. Thank you, Dr. Clifford Bassett, for being so attentive and knowledgeable.  I feel confident having a great team by my side, and hope you do, too.
