5 Ways to Improve Your Fertility

SMOKING & ALCOHOL.  Be sure to avoid smoking (both men and women) and limit alcohol and caffeine consumption.

LUBRICATION.  Water-based lubricants such as KY-Jelly, Astroglide and Touch can inhibit sperm mobility 60% to 100%.  Aloe or peanut oil (for those who are not allergic to peanuts) are good, natural alternatives.

HAVE SEX.  Not too much (this can cause stress), but not too little.  Every other day or every two days can help the motility of sperm count.

MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT.  Women with a BMI under 19 can take four times longer to conceive, while women with a BMI over 25 can take two times longer to conceive.  For optimal conditions, be sure to maintain a healthy weight.

GET A PRECONCEPTION CHECK-UP.  Meet with your OBGYN to make sure you are in good health and can get pregnant safely.  Ask your OBYGYN when he or she recommends you start taking folic acid, which is instrumental in helping to prevent some birth defects.
