DASHA® Practices What They Preach

Think about your fingernails and toenails. The truth is, you really don’t think about them all that much (thankfully, right?), unless you’re forced to – when something hurts or is broken or goes wrong. Too often, the same goes with our health. We don’t really think about our heart and lungs and flexibility and range of motion (the list goes on and on) until something stops working. Then, we think about it. A lot. In fact, we can’t stop thinking about it and it becomes the number one priority on our lives to then fix that non-functioning or dysfunctional body part.

Recently, my sister was diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer. Just last week, my father, a colorectal cancer survivor of 12+ years and counting, was diagnosed with tongue cancer. You could say it’s been a bit of a double whammy and tough year thus far. Thankfully it is early stages for both of them and they should be okay, though their diagnosis, surgery and treatments should not be taken lightly. I happen to be blessed with a sister and father that are fairly on top of their health, getting check-ups as necessary, and not on any medications.

Many of you who come to DASHA® will never see me – I’m like an elf, creating content and writing material for our blog and promotions – helping Dr. Pollack and Shannon in the beautiful business they created to help others. I’m never seen or heard by you, but I’m there. And my recent family events have helped to have a whole other level of appreciation not only for my job, writing about health and wellness issues, but also and especially for what it is DASHA® does and what they advocate for time and time again. They practice preventive medicine – they say, yes, there is so much you do not have control over, but there is so much you do have control over. So go to your appointments and check-ups and appropriate tests for your age. Better to make and take the time and hear everything is perfect, than to not go at all or have something escalate and become an emergency.

We have the potential to feel and look good at every age, but we have to do our part to combat the parts left to chance or fate. Through diet and exercise, we can help prevent or prolong the onset of disease. DASHA®’s 360 degree approach to total body wellness, their belief on how to enhance your well-being®, by addressing all of your needs head-to-toe through chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, physical therapy and personal training, is a gift to Manhattan. I want all of you to have the DASHA® experience so you can realize your health and fitness goals.

My fiancée is always reminding me to focus on today, that you never know what might happen with tomorrow, so there is only now. And he’s right! Take care of yourself today. And then you can better enjoy tomorrow because you will still be here and you’ll be healthy! And the sooner you take care of yourself today, the more you can do all of those things on your list (and take care of the loved ones in your life) tomorrow.

Thank you, DASHA® (Dr. Pollack and Shannon), for practicing what you preach and making me proud to work for you.
