Tis the season! No, we aren’t talking about the holiday cheer just yet, we’re talking about the season of races.

New York City Marathon Runners

So, if you didn’t already know, the New York City Marathon is running it’s way through the concrete streets of Manhattan today! This is the race of the year where the New York City COMMUNITY really shows their love for one another.

This happens to be one of our favorite seasons here at DASHA®. So, whether you’re running in the race, cheering on a loved one or simply just stopping by to catch all the excitement, make sure to note that getting around the city might be a little harder today, which can cause tension and anxiety to rise.

Lucky for you, DASHA® has a few of their expert tips and tricks for you to stay calm and cool throughout the whole marathon (plus we aren’t strangers to marathon races at all). We don’t just fix the runners after, we help them get to the start line.

  • Street Closers – Make sure to pay attention to what streets are marked opened and closed. These streets will have some of the highest security imaginable guarding them and sometimes the GPS or map won’t be able to pick up these closers. With that being said, plan ahead and make sure to give yourself some extra travel time.
  • Beat the Crowded – Yes, it can be crowded and overwhelming with cowbells ringing and people holding up signage in front of your face BUT keep in mind it’s all for the runners! Even though your anxiety might try and get the best of you, keep on taking deep breaths and focus on the good cause. Some of these people are raising thousands of dollars, some remember the more the merrier. Make sure to give yourself extra time to find the best spot as well, this will also result in you beating the crowd of people.
  • Keep on Cheering – Runners are going to expect to see familiar faces cheering them on from the sideline. Even if you aren’t a familiar face, there’s no harm in cheering everyone and anyone on. So don’t ditch out and come root for your fellow New Yorkers!

26.2 miles isn’t a walk in the park. It takes;”DEDICATION, INSPIRATION, and a whole lot of COMMITMENT to train for this type of marathon. But the reward of running is amazing, especially when it’s for an amazing cause.

When you run for a good cause it’s so much greater than the pain you incite getting there. So remember,  keep on cheering for the marathon runners and show some support by volunteering at the h20 stations during the New York City Marathon. You never know, you might be inspired to register next year! If you do, well we have tons of ways to help you train and prepare here at DASHA®, so stop on by or click here to learn more.
