When the heat advisory won’t back down and the kids are still out of school, you’ve got to keep them entertained! Or at least from tearing your house apart or staring at their screens and abusing their thumbs by texting all day. Are you at a loss for what to do?

Try some recommendations from DASHA®:

Board games and card games are in. You probably haven’t played a board game since 1989 and a card game since 1990. Remember Sorry, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit and War? You’ve been missing out! Rediscover just how fun they are and let the competitive streak in you and your children run wild. They’ll be using their brain power and engaging in a social activity.

Go bowling. Open 12 to 12 and even later on the weekends, Bowlmor at Chelsea Piers boasts 40 bowling lanes. It’s air-conditioned, dark, and when was the last time you bowled? Discover this unique family fun all over again. Kids can also keep busy with Laser Tag and the only indoor ropes course in NYC.

Check out the Whitney Museum of American Art. The Whitney has all kinds of American art, much of it modern, so there’s plenty to see, question, talk about and deconstruct with the kids. They also offer free daily tours and great family programs on the weekend from 10:30am to 3:00pm. On Friday evenings from 7pm to 10pm, the museum is free. The Whitney is adjacent to the highline and a stones throw from the West Side Highway, so if it happens to cool down even a little, you can take a leisurely stroll along the water or the architectural masterpiece that is the Highline.

You know you want to do Discovery Times Square. Currently, Discovery Times Square offers the famous bodies exhibit, one on Star Wars costumes, and another on Vikings, so there’s something for every child. Located in the heart of Times Square, it’s actually screaming for you to bring your family to explore.

Visit the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. The Brooklyn Children’s Museum has amazing daily programs for children, plus fun interactive exhibits. Make the trip to this borough to check it out.
