How To Recovery From A Summer Injury

With the warm weather, here and most schools almost out for the summer it seems like ‘Spring Fever’ is in full swing! As we start to see more and more people become active outdoors, we unfortunately also see an increase of summer injuries related to these activities like bike riding, swimming, and running.

One reason is because our bodies are transiting from exercising indoors, to outdoors. There’s an increase of people on the streets, especially here in New York City, potholes from the winter season, and uneven sidewalks.

Now, while we may take a little stumble during our outdoor workout and feel slight pain for a few minutes it’s so important to stop your activity when it happens to go get it looked at by a medical provider. Because while you may think it’s just a little sprain or a twist, it could lead to far worse down the road leading your summer of fun to quickly come to a hold.

Two ways to ensure you’re not putting your body and muscles in any danger is to always make sure you warm up before you partake in any physical activity and make sure to take your time. If you haven’t been as active in the Fall and Winter, don’t rush into anything! It’s okay to take it slow, don’t feel discouraged if you might not be able to keep up just yet with others around you. Find a friend group or family member who is also on the same page as you when it comes to physical activity and work towards your goals together.
