When you’re cooking at home, be sure to include fresh fruit and veggies of every color – some of our favorites are red peppers, broccoli and carrots! Another important tip when it comes to making your own food is watching salt intake levels. Dietary guidelines recommend that we should stick to under 1,500 mg of sodium per day.
  • Eating a heart healthy diet is more than just eating healthy fruits and vegetables. It also is important about cutting down fat and cholesterol levels. By paying attention to what you are eating, you can easily take note and lower the levels of foods that aren’t good for us. Reducing intake of saturated fat, avoiding trans fats, and focusing on lean meats and dairy products are all ways we can continue a heart healthy diet.
  • Take this time to reflect on eating habits and start paying more attention to the foods that you’re eating. In the long run, every change helps to reduce the risk of heart disease.
