Our goal is to Empower each bird to fly free

A Free Bird aims to provide the opportunity for children diagnosed with cancer to explore their artistic passion, and to give them the strength and the power to fight their disease.

We are a non-profit organization, aiming to help children diagnosed with cancer. Not only will proceeds help fund cancer research for children, this organization will implement a creative atmosphere in which affected children can thrive.

A Free Bird will raise money to provide private tutors for children who are undergoing cancer treatments to help make their artistic dreams become a reality. The instructors will come directly to a child’s place of residence to carry out these lessons. As time progresses, the child’s skills will improve. Once therapy has successfully come to a close, the child will be given the opportunity to present their art to the public by showcasing their work at one of A Free Bird’s bi-annual events.

Originating in Manhattan, A Free Bird aims to continuously expand its wings and ultimately stretch nationwide. This will become a reality with the generosity of ongoing donations.

The Inspiration

A Free Bird came into conception after an experience touched the life of Godni, an aspiring singer/songer writer and also the founder of this organization. The husband of Godni’s voice teacher was diagnosed with cancer, and as a result, his teacher had to let go of many of her pupils to care for him. However, she always allowed one student to return for voice lessons. Her ailing husband found joy in hearing Godni’s voice who would frequently sing for him. During the middle of one of Godni’s lessons, his teacher stopped playing the piano and she began to cry. Her sadness and frustration became clear.
When the voice lesson came to an end, Godni walked home with his teacher’s thoughts and words replaying over and over again in his head. He took her experiences and her struggles she faced with this disease and created the song, A Free Bird, using his own words.
